Combat Performance - The Premiere Training Experience in MMA
Robert McMullin

Living and Breathing Combat Sports
I was raised in Northern California. Growing up I always participated and excelled in sports. At the age of 16 I wanted to try something new to challenge my athletic abilities and I chose boxing. It was the best decision I had made. I fell in love with the sport, the competition, and the camaraderie between the competitors.
As I grew up with boxing I also learned how to coach, and hold pads, from my coach, Al LeMay. By 25 years old I began coaching on my own and opened my first gym, Orchard Boxing Team. My favorite part of coaching was seeing the progression in the athletic abilities of the individuals I trained. I gave them the motivation to train harder and in return they gave me the motivation to want to change people’s lives through my knowledge of health and fitness.
Wanting to have the best conditioned fighters, I became a student of sports conditioning, and my studies grew into a love of the art and science of creating faster, stronger, and better athletes. As my knowledge of sports conditioning grew, I felt that because of the limitations of my experience and connections in the boxing world, that I could not be the top boxing coach. However, I knew in my heart that I could be the top conditioning coach. I also knew that this meant I had to expand my horizons.
My passion and knowledge of sports conditioning soon grew beyond the relatively narrow focus of boxing and it wasn’t long before I began sharing my rapidly expanding understanding of the discipline with those involved in a variety of other sports. Soon, athletes from a broad spectrum of sports became my clients. Diversifying my contacts quickly led me to training fighters from Nor Cal Fighting Alliance. Success in this new and exciting sport quickly yielded results with Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance fighters; Rick Cheek (5x Kickboxing Champion, K-1 fighter), and, Kyle ‘Humboldt’ Pimentel (PFC Welterweight Champion). The synergy was quickly evident and Combat Performance was officially launched in 2007.
Moving to MMA Central
After the success I had with NCFA, and knowing Las Vegas to be the hotspot for MMA, I relocated to Las Vegas in July ’09 in pursuit of my dream; being a strength and conditioning coach to the highest level of MMA fighters. Building on my reputation for developing successful fighters in California, it wasn’t long after arriving in Las Vegas that I began training private clients and teaching my signature “AMPD FitCamps” to develop my local credentials and expand my contacts in the MMA world.
One day I met Shawn ‘The Coach’ Tompkins of “Team Tompkins”, and he invited me to join his Team as the Strength and Conditioning Coach. Shawn’s Team was stacked with top fighters from the UFC, WEC, up and coming talent, and future champions and proved to be the perfect environment for my talent and experience.
Opportunity Knocks…..Twice!!!
My ability to produce results and my growing reputation soon landed me the privilege of becoming a featured trainer on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” Season 9. I took on the task of training Biggest Loser contestants, “Koli” and “Sunshine”. Both contestants moved to Las Vegas to train with me for three months in preparation for the Season Finale.
It wasn’t long before I had the reality stars training right alongside my professional fighters from Team Tompkins. This was an amazing opportunity for me to bridge the gap between two different cultures with the same end goal in mind…..to improve fitness levels; the fighters need to perform at a high level for competition while Koli and Sunshine were training to be healthier and lose a tremendous amount of weight.
Sunshine lost 114lbs total!
Koli demolished the other finalists by losing 53.54% of his bodyweight, 215lbs total!!! This was more than 3.5% more than anyone else, and, for doing so, he won the At-Home Prize of $100,000!!!
Following my success with Koli and Sunshine I was introduced to Mark Pinhasovich from BL Season 10. Mark called me to ask if I would be willing to train him for the Biggest Loser Season 10. I accepted and he also moved to Las Vegas to train with me. Mark promised me he would come with a focus like no other…he did just that. I used my AMPD FitCamp program and some boxing classes to get Mark into BL10 Finale shape. He pushed through each workout with one goal in mind…to raise his hand in victory.
At the end of Mark’s training he went on to win the BL10 Finale At-Home-Prize of $100,000 by crushing the other competitors by losing 50.6% of his bodyweight, 213lbs! Mark was also the only contestant to lose over 50% bodyweight that season.
Translating the Discipline
When I’m not training amateur or pro fighters, consulting with other coaches on individual athlete’s progress, or watching pro practice, you can still find me training private clients, or putting an entire group through one of my unique AMPD FitCamp workouts. My FitCamp Class is one of the most popular classes at TapouT Training Center, Las Vegas.
What sets my Combat Performance Program apart from the rest are my Combat Rounds. My fighters don’t tire out due to the conditioning work they do with me during their fight camps.
“Everyone has a little bit of an athlete inside them – I bring that athlete out.”

Testimonials
My training with Robert Mcmullin was absolutely wonderful. He is the most motivating person I have ever met and helped me to lose about 35 pounds in two sessions of boot camp with him. He always encouraged me and I never missed any classes because he was so enthusiastic and oassionate about the training. I even went to extra classes because of how inspiring he was. I was in very bad shape and a had a lot of built up anxiety with losing my mother and I am so thankful I trained with Robert. He was very positive and uplifting and I am now in the best shape of my life thanks to his help. He has a great heart and is always smiling. Every session was interesting, exciting, and different and it was such a fun experience as well. I never though training could be so amazing and it could not have been so successful without Robert! He is a very hard worker and a great trainer!
Thank you Robert for everything!

When I started Fit camp with Robert I was nervous, it had been awhile since I had trained hard.
Instantly Robert put my mind at ease, He is very professional and focused but also down to earth with a great sense of humor.
Robert’s workouts are challenging but revitalizing. I always looked forward to the classes, I felt stronger and more motivated after every session.
At the end of my fit camp I lost 20 pounds, had new friends in my fellow fit campers, and an awesome trainer who continues to motivate me to work my body to it’s fullest potential.

To whom it may concern:
I am writing to happily recommend Robert McMullin as a personal trainer. I first started working out with Robert in April of 2008. Within my first 2.5 weeks I lost 11 pounds and was able to achieve my first goal of dropping below 200 pounds. With Robert’s motivation and support as a trainer this was the first time in 6 years that I achieved that goal after numerous attempts with other trainers or on my own.
Unfortunately, in May of 2008 I was in a car accident that put me out of commission for quite some time. During my down time Robert would suggest books for me to read or eating plans to help me out. Even though I was able to begin working out again after about 5 months of recovery, I was only able to do limited work-outs. Robert designed workouts for me that allowed me to feel as if I was getting a full work-out even though they were moderated. No matter how bad I would feel during the work outs he would motivate me to continue and encouraged me not to stop.
But he won’t take it easy on ya!! Oh No!!! He means business! He’s committed 100% to that hour of torture, I mean conditioning. I’ve never sweated so much in my life when working out with Robert. I have become stronger over the past year and half even with the car accident kicking me down. I believe that I have recovered quicker because of his expertise and commitment to getting me back healthy.
Robert has been the best trainer I have ever had and I know if you are looking to achieve your goals, he’s the one that will get you there.
Sincerely,
Letitia Hanke
Dear Robert,
I’m writing to thank you for the excellent coaching and training you
have provided to me since I started working with you this past
February. The personalized program you assembled for me including
fitness goals, workout schedule, nutrition planning and progress
monitoring has really worked well. I am thrilled with my improving
fitness level.
You have also been attentive to my concerns surrounding my
conditioning post heart surgery. It was re-assuring to me that you
were so willing to work within the initial limits prescribed by my
cardiologist. Starting off slowly and building up core strength first
made it possible for me to meet the goals I set at the beginning.
Since starting to train with you I have lost 8 pounds and traded body
fat for lean body mass. My overall strength has increased
substantially, as has my endurance. I’ve started running which I would
have never thought possible for me, that has also led to increased
endurance. I’m actually planning on entering a 10K race and even a
mini triathlon this fall.
I appreciate all of your help and continue to enjoy our workouts. Even
when I struggle! Your sense of humor, your willingness to push me to
push my limits, and your health and fitness knowledge are exceptional
qualities that make you a truly great coach.
Many thanks,
James Freed

Working with Robert from Combat Performance was great! I am a mother of two and work full time and before working out with Robert I always did lite weight training but since I am a runner at heart I always headed towards the treadmill. Training with Robert made me realize I could get a great workout and not feel like I had to use every machine in the gym. He always had a a great workout planned and I always left our session feeling like that was the best workout ever and he couldn’t push me anymore. I was wrong! Robert pushed me to my limits and beyond. My greatest accomplishment might not sound like much to you but before Robert I never could do a push up and since working out with Robert I now have the strength to do them and actually like to do them.
No matter your age or ability level, Robert will help you work towards and meet your goals!
